Local churches and associations (especially those with disaster recovery units) are doing assessments and helping people with chainsaw work and debris removal.

Homeowners affected by the recent hurricane can register to request assistance with debris cleanup. They will review the information and let you know regarding the ability of volunteers to respond to your particular need. They provide free volunteer labor for storm related damage therefore not all requests for assistance can be granted.  Your request and information may be referred to another voluntary agency that is providing assistance in your geographic area.

]]>http://pinetopsnc.com/come-see-our-brand-new-homeMunicipal Sewer Use Ordinance - Greases & Oilshttp://pinetopsnc.com/municipal-sewer-use-ordinance-greases-oilsTue, 16 Aug 2011 05:00:00 GMTTown of PinetopsEach year, there are more than 15,000 sewer overflows in North Carolina.  Many of these overflows are directly related to the improper disposal of oil and grease in kitchen drains.  Grease congeals on sewer pipe, which causes wastewater to flow back into homes and businesses or directly into waterways.

Discharging oil and grease into municipal sewer pipes is 100 percent preventable.

DO:

  • Scrape excess grease in a container and dispose of it in the garbage.
  • Place food scraps in waste containers or garbage bags for disposal with solid wastes or start a compost pile; promote use of scraping ware prior to washing.
  • Place a wastebasket in the bathroom to dispose of solid wastes.  Disposable diapers, condoms and personal hygiene products do not belong in the sewer system.
  • Promote the concept of "3 R's": Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

DO NOT:
  • Pour grease, fats and oils from cooking down the drain.
  • Use the toilet as a wastebasket
  • Use the sewer as a means of disposing food scraps.

all electronics and TV’s from entering any landfills.

All computers, electronics, and televisions can be recycled at the Edgecombe County Solid Waste Facility, 2861 Colonial Rd. during regular office hours, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:45 pm and Saturday, 7:30 am – 11:30 am or at any of the nine convenience centers throughout the county. If you have any questions or concerns, call 827-4253 (County Landfill office) or the Town of Pinetops (827-4435). There is no charge. The Town will no longer pick up these items.

REMINDERS: Garbage Pick-up – Mondays. Recycling Pick-Up – Tuesdays. Bulky items – Thursdays. Grass, limbs, and other yard waste is picked up as we can get to it. Don’t put other throw away items in piles with the yard waste.

You can be fined $25 for uncovered loads. If you have received that fine,  you may purchase a tarp to cover your loads and show proof of purchase at the Solid Waste Office at 2821 Colonial Road, and the fine will be dropped. TIP: Repair dripping faucets and leaky toilets.  Dripping faucets can waste about 2,000 gallons of water each year.  Leaky toilets can waste as much as 200 gallons each day.

SEWER - The Town of Pinetops operates a water reclamation plant (sewer plant) that can treat 300,000 gallons of sewage per day.  The sewage is transported from residents of Pinetops by 60,000 linear feet of gravity pipes to the plant which is located on Bruton Craft Lane.

GARBAGE & RECYCLING - The Town of Pinetops collects garbage and recycling weekly from citizens with the use of its crews and a private contractor.  90 gallon carts are given to citizens to put at the curb for collections of garbage each Monday.

METALS: No Pie Pans or Foil, No Pressurized Cans

GLASS: Clear, Brown & Green Glass, Bottles & Jars, No Drining Glasses or Stemware, No Light Bulbs or Mirrors, No Window Panes

TIP: Use fluorescent rather than regular light bulbs.  They use a fourth of the energy generated by regular bulbs and last about 10 times longer.  Burn one 100-watt bulb instead of two 60-watt bulbs.  Keep lamps, shades, and bulbs dust free.
